Artist Statement

Catherine Moffat is best known for her finely rendered still life watercolours.  Her painting goes beyond the skilful representation of interesting objects; it rests on a strong foundation of design and colour sensitivity.  Both rich and disciplined, her work is carefully constructed and refined to achieve a satisfying sense of resolution for both the eye and the spirit.

In 2001, Catherine was elected to be an "Artist in Residence" at "Painters at Painters", the annual art festival weekend at Painters Lodge in Campbell River.  In the same year she was awarded SFCA status by the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Her work can be found in private collections in Canada, the US. Europe and Japan, and has appeared in Carmanah: Artistic Visions of an Ancient Rainforest, the Artists Magazine, International Artists Magazine and Art Avenues.

Since her first gallery affiliation in 1978, Catherine has mounted over 22 solo exhibitions, in addition to numerous group shows and fundraising events.  Her teaching experience includes the Metchosin Summer School of the Arts, Art Break (Saltspring Island) and Various arts groups.  Catherine enjoys sharing her experience with painters at all stages through slide and oral presentation.

"My painting stems from my longing to make something beautiful, and my confidence that this is, for me, a worthy goal."
